Winter at Karridale Cottages and Hop Farm is a beautiful time for year to cuddle up with a glass of red wine or dark ale from the region and enjoy the warmth of the fire. It's a bit quieter in the region over winter so you can enjoy the peacefulness the winter months bring with fewer crowds at your favourite wineries, breweries, restaurants and cafes. Winter in the hop yard sees a lot of work putting our hop rhizomes to sleep for the winter months, after cutting them back after harvest and giving them a good cover of mulch. We've also weeded and tilled the rows to make it easier to hand seed our green manure crop to continue to build and improve our soil for the next growing season. Next year we're expanding our hop yard by splitting our rhizomes. Splitting is happening this month with any extra rhizomes sold to interested customers and growers through our website. Winter in the cottages is a busy time of year providing stacks of wood to keep you warm inside by the fire or outside to toast marshmallows with a cup of homemade chai or hot chocolate in your hands. It's also the time to stay a bit longer and enjoy a walk through our bushland to see the sights and sounds of winter. This winter we're also converting our amenities block into our newest Cottage. This cottage will be suitable for a couple with a beautiful bathtub to enjoy a special weekend away. We can't wait to share with you our new project and we hope you love it as much as we do.
Until next time, cheers.
